The diverse worlds of network
communications, computing and information content are converging
around ‘Internet Computing’. As these converging marketplaces
move to an IP based standard for web servers, browsers, document
management and ultimately electronic commerce, business users
are faced with the challenge of making use of installed equipment
and software, while at the same time taking competitive advantage
of the facilities and efficiencies that these new technologies
promise.
This paper addresses the current
business realities and future business scenarios of moving
to an Internet based networking standard. It identifies some
of the immediate advantages that this brings, but also differentiates
the hype from the very real issues of integrating legacy systems
and maintaining business management control of the network.
In addition, the future of Electronic
Commerce, both business to business and business to consumer,
is reviewed from a pragmatic and productivity standpoint.

Over 200,000 copies of the Beta
3 version of the soon to be released Novell NetWare® 5
network operating system have been shipped on request to customers
worldwide, and demand is continuing. The earlier Beta 2 release
was shipped to over 122,000 customers and partners. This compares
to a total of only 20,000 betas shipped for Novell’s popular
IntraNetWare platform. Reviews of NetWare5 by both the Press
and Analysts have been uniformly positive. There is evidently
intense interest in NetWare 5 worldwide.
NetWare 5 is the most business
focused and solution based product that Novell has ever released.
It is all about optimising Internet technologies, whilst maintaining
the performance, reliability and security that NetWare is
renowned for. The high demand to trial the beta 3 release
highlights the level of positive expectation of Novell’s customers.
This paper will discuss Novell’s
strategy behind NetWare 5, review the Internet technologies
and solutions it provides, discuss why 20,000 software developers
have signed up to write to this platform (compared with Novell’s
total of 5,000 only a year ago), and discuss how this infrastructure
product inter-operates with Java, NT, as well as Novell’s
and other vendor’s networking solutions.

The name Z.E.N.works stands for
Zero Effort Networks, since it reduces the costs and complexities
of maintaining network PCs and delivers zero effort networking
for users.
Z.E.N.works reduces the cost
of networked PCs and makes users more productive with application
distribution, desktop management and workstation maintenance.
Z.E.N.works is server-based management software that lets
you more efficiently manage your network’s applications and
Windows workstations, thus reducing network administration
costs.
This seminar will give an overview
of Z.E.N.works and how it can be implemented simply and effectively
in your organisation.
